ESOL Citizenship

The Government believes strongly that those who wish to settle in the UK should be encouraged to play a full part in their wider community. Therefore all adults who now apply for settlement (indefinite leave to remain) 2 April 2007 will need to demonstrate knowledge of language and of “life in the UK” in addition to meeting the usual requirements for settlement.

SBYF has developed an accredited ESOL with Citizenship Training Programme that meets the requirements of government (Border & Immigration Agency: Knowledge of Life in the UK ) for people who wish to apply for indefinite leave to remain in the UK or apply for British Citizenship. The course is delivered by experienced and highly qualified ESOl tutors.

The programme will focus on speaking and listening elements of the ESOL curriculum and is delivered in a variety of methods including group exercises, individual tasks and assignments. Learners will work in small groups and the aim will be to improve speaking and listening skills in English and gain an understanding of British culture, democratic process and law.
